A man hammers hot metal on an anvil

Ok,

I've been wanting to talk about the process of filmmaking on this site. Not the deep technicals of frame rates and software, etc. There are plenty of tutorials about that.

I want to talk about the human side. Dealing with people. Dealing with yourself.

But before I talk about any of that, there is one key point.

You can make your movie yourself.

You have to know this before you begin.

EVERYONE will tell you that you need x, y, z. That you need a $50,000 camera. That you need to know someone or finance your film with credit cards.

This is not true.

You need:

  1. A story

  2. People to tell it

  3. A location

  4. A camera

  5. A computer to put it all together.

Now none of these things are without cost, but the cost does not have to be high.

I would recommend starting with a short film or a filmed scene just to get the reps in, but you can absolutely shoot a feature film with a cheap camera and some friends.

This is the important thing.

Everything else is just logistics.
